Rick Hill, M.D.
“Going blind means just about the same thing in any country,” said Dr. Hill, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California at Irvine. A recipient of several National Institute of Health grants, Dr. Hill received his medical degree from Northwestern and did a fellowship at USC’s Doheny Eye Institute. He has made ten medical missions to Armenia.
Mary E. Davidian, M.D.
Dr. Davidian did her ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye & ear Infirmary and a fellowship in ophthalmology at UCI. She is in private practice in Newburgh, New York, and a Cornea/Refractive Surgery Consultant at The Mackool Eye Institute.
Alex Malayan, M.D.
Dr. Malayan was born in Georgia and lives in Armenia with his wife and two children. He is Chief of Cafedra of Ophthalmology at the Republican/S.V. Malayan Eye Hospital in Yerevan and the Eye Care Project’s Director in Armenia.
Lillit Voskanyan, M.D.
Dr. Voskanyan was born and educated in Armenia. Married, with two children, she balances family life with a busy professional life. She did a fellowship, sponsored by the EyeCare Project, in the Medical and Surgical Treatment of Glaucoma at UCI under the tutelage of Dr. Richard Hill and returned to Armenia to head the Glaucoma Clinic at the Republican/S.V. Malayan Eye Hospital.
John Hovanesian, M.D.
An Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at UC Irvine, Dr. Hovanesian graduated in three years, Suma Cum Laude with a B.S. in Honors Chemistry from the University of Michigan. He remained in Michigan for his internship and residency and then did a Fellowship in refractive surgery, cornea, and external disease at UCLA’S Jules Stein Eye Institute.
Howard Conn, M.D.
Dr. Conn was born in Newport News, Virginia and attended Amherst College in Massachusetts. He returned to the University of Virginia for medical school and then did his internship and residency at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Conn has three children and lives and works in Irvine where he specializes in laser cosmetic surgery.
Barry Kuppermann, M.D.
Dr. Kupperman, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at U.C. Irvine, did his undergraduate work in biophysics at U.C. Berkley, received his Ph.D. in neuroscience from California Institute of Technology, and his medical degree from the University of Miami. Consistently named one of the “Best Doctors in America,” since 1996, he was named the “Best Ophthalmologist in Orange County,” in 1996.
Anna Hovakimyan, M.D.
Dr. Hovakimyan received her medical degree from Yerevan state Medical University and did a Francis I Proctor Foundation Research Fellowship, sponsored by the EyeCare Project, at the University of California at San Francisco. She is currently an ophthalmologist with the Trauma and Vitreo Retinal Center at the Republican/S. Malayan Eye Hospital.
Khodam Rostomian, M.D.
Dr. Rostomian is an American citizen, born in Tehran, Iran. He and his wife, Carmen, a dentist, live in Glendale with their two children, Nairi, five, and Lara, two. He did his residency at the Doheny Eye Institute, USC, and is practicing ophthalmology in Lancaster.
Steve Feldon, M.D.
Dr. Feldon, recently appointed Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rochester in New York, received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He interned at UCLA, did his residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and fellowships at UC San Francisco, Harvard, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Aisha Simjee, M.D.
Dr. Simjee is an American citizen, born in Surat, India. She received her medical degree from the Institute of Medicine, Rangoon, Burma, and did a fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Simjee has traveled to more than twelve countries, all over the world, on ophthalmology missions.
Armen Vartanyan, M.D.
Dr. Vartanyan was born in Yerevan where he lives with his wife and two children. He attended medical school at Yerevan State Medical University and did a clinical fellowship at UCI in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous. After his fellowship, sponsored by the EyeCare Project, he returned to head the Vitreo-Retinal Department at S.V. Malayan's Ophthalmologic Center.
Sarkis Soukiasian, M.D.
.Dr.Soukiasian was born in Yerevan, Armenia and emigrated to the U.S. as a child. He obtained his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology followed by fellowships in Cornea - External Diseases and Uveitis at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School. He is currently Director of the Vision Correction Center at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts and Associate Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
Lee Shahinian, M.D.
Dr. Shahinian received his medical degree from Stanford University, did his internship at USC Medical Center, and then returned to Stanford for his ophthalmology residency. Dr. Shahinian is married with two children and is in private practice in Mountain View, California.
Richard Kasper, M.D.
Dr. Kasper received his medical degree from the USC School of Medicine and did his internship and residency at USC-LA County General Hospital. He was a Captain in the US Army, serving in Yokohama with the Ophthalmology Medical Corps. He is Professor Emeritus at Doheny Eye Institute & USC where he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
George Bohigian, M.D.
Dr. George Bohigian was born and raised in St. Louis where he is in private practice. He is a Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Bohigian enjoys teaching and doing clinical research. His hobbies include fly-fishing, gardening, traveling, and Armenian cooking.
Sanford Chen, M.D.
Dr. Chen was born in New York and completed his secondary education in England. He matriculated through the University of Michigan’s accelerated medical program then did his internship at Yale, his residency at Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia, and a fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He has received numerous academic and civic honors and is a life member of the National Registry of Who’s Who.
John Michon, M.D.
Dr. Michon recently left his position as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford to become Chief of Oculoplastic, Orbital and Reconstructive Surgery at Duke. He attended medical school at the University of Illinois where he did his Internship; his residency at Wilmer Opthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins and a fellowship at the Doheny Eye Institute, USC.
Georgie Grigoryan, M.D.
Dr. Grigoryan was born in Yerevan where he lives with his wife and two children. Sponsored by the EyeCare Project, he did a fellowship at the USC Doheny Eye Institute and returned to Yerevan as Chief of the Vascular Pathology Department at Republican/S.V. Malayan Hospital. He is also the Assistant Director of the Department of Eye Diseases at the Yerevan State Medical University.
Robert Bedrossian, M.D.
Dr. Bedrossian attended Temple University Medical School and practiced in Vancouver, Washington until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his career he received numerous honors including the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Honors Award. He visited countries all over the world as a professor and missionary including Indonesia, El Salvador, Kenya, China, Cyprus, and Thailand.
